Coating
For unmatched performance in protection, adhesion & flexibility
The second industrial revolution saw genesis of technological processes. Among them, Coating stands apart. In many ways, Coating has been an industry enabler, redefining limits of possibility. Finding its way to most surfaces, Coating has changed the face of infrastructure and manufacturing. It propelled aspirations of development into areas that didn’t even blip on the radar of probability. Marine Engineering, Food Preservation and Aerospace are just few, from a very broad spectrum. Name an industry, and Coating is bound to be a key central technology.
From the early 1930s, as Epoxy Resin emerged to hold its sway over many applications, Epoxy Coating surfaced as a pioneering technology. Unmatched in its performance in protection, anti-corrosion, chemical resistance, adhesion, flexibility and adaptability, it is, today, the most extensively used surface technology. Epoxy Coatings heighten outcomes for engineers, technicians, formulators and applicators. It enables businesses to scale new levels of productivity, efficiency, customer fulfilment, economic value and innovation. Aditya Birla Advanced Materials has been a leading global provider of cutting-edge Epoxy Coating systems. From underwater pipeline to heavy-duty warehouse to load-bearing structure to pharma lab table to food packaging to a decorative flooring, we deliver assurance of quality and reliability, consistently.

Coating Applications
Epoxy Metalised Polymer Film Coating
Polymer & Metalised Polymer Films are used in varied applications like flexible packaging, man-made Jari, opaque film on glass, coloured wrapper etc. The characteristics of the polymer substrate itself makes it quite difficult to coat it. Smooth, compact and its low surface energy makes it non-conducive for wetting and adhesion of the coating material on the substrate. High-density, low-molecular-branched resins, like polyethylene surfaces have a high degree of crystallisation and are difficult to coat. The coating solvent system is not similar to the plastic substrate making it difficult to wet thereby causing adhesion to be poor. If solvent is excessively dissolved on the plastic substrate, it may crack
Certain additives used in the assembly and moulding process of plastic products also affect the adhesion of the coating to the substrate. Plastic, being an insulator has a strong static adding to the difficulty in coating. Thermoplastics are softened and deformed by heat, and thermosetting plastics are excessively decomposed by heat. Therefore, coating over polymer film must allow low temperature curing or very fast curing at high temperature.
Epoxy Resin systems, with its excellent adhesion, help deliver a coating that not only overcomes these challenges, but also achieve other advantages. Higher reactivity of the resin system allows optimum curing in a short time reducing the need for longer coating lines. This reduces risk of exposing synthetic material to higher curing temperature for long time. Mix viscosity is moderate and can be diluted with solvents.
